Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that involves treating the individual with highly diluted substances with the aim of supporting the body’s natural system of healing, giving the patient control over their own well-being and enabling them to attain their own optimum level of health. Based on their specific symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate medicine to each patient. Homeopathic medicines (often called remedies) are prepared by specialist pharmacies using a careful process of dilution and succussion (a specific form of vigorous shaking).
As yet, science has not been able to explain the mechanism of action of these ultra- high dilutions in the body, but laboratory experiments are increasingly showing that homoeopathically prepared substances can cause biological effects. There is also a growing body of research evidence suggesting that homeopathic medicines have clinical effects too. However, the scientific debate over the evidence base for and against homeopathy continues. More and more people are becoming dissatisfied with orthodox treatments and the use of toxic drugs which may well be harmful and can suppress the immune system.
Homeopathic remedies are safe and non-toxic.
Please see Research page for positive research evidence.
How do I take homeopathic remedies?
Sue will give you a remedy usually in the form of a tablet or tablets, occasionally as powders, which should be allowed to dissolve in your mouth; or you may be given a liquid remedy with instructions. You should not eat or drink anything for about 20 minutes before or after taking the remedy. Please tell Sue about any medicines prescribed for you by your doctor and also if you have dental treatment.
What conditions can homeopathy treat?
Homeopathy treats the whole person not the disease, aiming to strengthen the body’s resistance to illness whilst supporting the body’s ability to self-heal. Almost any health problem can be helped through homeopathy. Also it can treat people when they just don’t feel right. It boosts energy levels and restores a sense of well-being. As such it is an important form of preventative medicine correcting early imbalances before serious conditions develop.
The vast majority of homeopathic remedies are derived from plants, although they can originate in the animal and mineral kingdoms as shown below:
Plant remedies such as allium, aconite, arnica, belladonna
Mineral remedies include Mercury, Phosphorus, Arsenicum Album, Calcarea Carbonica
Animal remedies such as Lachesis (snake venom), Apis (bee sting), Tarentula (spider venom), Lac Caninum (canine milk)
